More than 200,000 Sikh veterans of World War I and II have been officially recognised by members of the Handsworth community at a special event.

The special event was organised by the Sikh Community & Youth Service UK to pay tribute to all the Sikhs involved in World War I and II.

Spokes person for the event said: “The Sikh contribution and involvement in the war is often overlooked. “This event will serve as an important and poignant reminder to today’s generation of the sacrifice our forefathers made while fighting for Britain. The contribution of over 200,000 Sikh Servicemen in World War 1 and 2 and the various other wars that the Sikh servicemen have served in should be covered in the National curriculum to ensure that the younger generations both Sikh and wider communities are aware of the sacrifices made by the Sikh people”

On the 16th of August 2007 after sustained campaigning by UK Sikh youth, Sri Akal Takht, Amritsar reiterated the Reht Maryada for Anand Karaj ceremonies.
Sri Akaal Takht Sahib is the Throne of the Almighty and the orders issued by it are called Hukamnamas. Hukamnama, literally means "Royal Order."

Participation of someone previously of a religion other than Sikhism in an Anand Karaj ceremony.

The existing Code of conduct regarding persons of other religions participating in an Anand Karaj ceremony is as follows:-

k. Persons professing faiths other than the Sikh faith cannot be joined in wedlock by the Anand Karaj ceremony.

Dispite this many Gurudwara Comittess across the UK are choosing to abuse this Maryada for financial gains.

As of 16th August 2007 new guidelines issues by Sri Akal Takhat

Any persons previously of a religion other than Sikhism must show his/her commitment to the PERSUIT of Sikhi by applying the following criteria:

Include Singh or Kaur in the name - Changing by Deed Poll including Passport & Driving Licence.

On the weekend of 25-26 August 07 Sarabha Panjab learned of at least 4 Gurudwaras where this Hukamana was breached.

Gurudwara Committee Cover-Ups!

Sarabha Panjab first exposed some of the devious and corrupt people that run our Gurdwaras in June 2007, when Ramgarhia Gurdwara, Graham Street, Birmingham orchestrated an anand Karaj ceremony involving a Muslim boy.
The Committee tried to cover this up with lies, one of which included “The young man can not change his name to Singh because of his past”.

Sarabha Panjab can now confirm that the Sikh girl who married this boy has now converted to Islam. The boy had no intention of adopting Sikhism, it was a total cover-up by the Gurdwara Committee.

Sikh youth are sick and tired of corrupt Committee members making their own rules and abusing the Sikh Maryada.

Similarly, last weekend, Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Coventry conducted an Anand Karaj ceremony for a Christian boy. Again saying he cannot change his name for whatever reason – NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!

People plan months, sometimes years in advance for their wedding. “Not having time to change name to Singh” – This is no excuse!
It is about time Sikh Sangat stand up and question these so called leaders into their actions.

Note: There are some devious members of a particular committee who are trying to turn this debate into personal feuds and anti-Jathabandi.
We make it clear; this issue is NOT against any Jatha, group or individuals. This campaign is solely for the preservation of Akal Takhat Maryada, Sikh ethics and Gurudwara code of conduct.

Anand Sanskar"Marriage Ceremony"

This is a message to all the Sikh Sangat that according to the Rehat Maryada only Sikh couples (male/female) can engage in the Anand Karaj Ceremony. If the couple or either one of them is not a Sikh, then they must embrace the Sikh faith.

This includes that they must change their second name to Singh or Kaur in their official document (e.g. driving licence, identity card, passport) before the marriage.

A hidden world in which Pakistani Muslim men “groom” young white girls for sex has been exposed with the jailing yesterday of two men for child-abuse offences.

Zulfqar Hussain, 46, and Qaiser Naveed, 32, from east Lancashire, were each jailed for five years and eight months after exploiting two girls aged under 16 by plying them with alcohol and drugs before having sex with them.

Both men pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court to abduction, sexual activity with a child and the supply of a controlled drug.

Despite being told explicitly by police and social services that both girls were under-age and should be returned to care, the men picked up one girl from a children’s home in Blackburn and then drove on to collect her friend who was living in temporary foster care in North Wales.

Naveed, from Burnley, gave one girl the first of five Ecstasy tablets at a motorway service station before having sex with her on the back seat of the car while the group drove back to Lancashire. The court was told that the two men later took the girls to an address in Blackburn where Hussain, from Blackburn, had sex with the second girl and gave her a total of ten Ecstasy tablets.

Yesterday Judge Andrew Gilbart, QC, jailed the two Pakistani men under new sex laws designed to protect youngsters from being groomed for sexual activity. Judge Gilbart said: “This is a truly shocking offence. You knew them. They were exploited for sex by the two of you. No other description is possible. They were under-age girls who you knew it was your responsibility to protect and not exploit.”

The trial came amid growing concern at the attitudes of some Pakistani men towards white girls which campaigners for women claim few people wish to address.

Parents have complained that in parts of the country with large Pakistani communities white girls as young as 12 are being targeted for sex by older Pakistani men yet the authorities are unwilling to act because of fears of being labelled racist.

Ann Cryer, a Labour member of the Commons Home Affairs Select Committee, has been at the forefront of attempting to tackle the problem after receiving complaints from mothers in her constituency about young Pakistani men targeting their under-age daughters.

Although campaigners claim that hundreds of young girls are already being passed around men within the Pakistani community for sex, she said that attempts to raise the problem with community leaders had met with little success, with most of them being in a state of denial about it.

After the case, the mother of one of the girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, welcomed the jail terms. “This will hopefully act as a warning to others,” the woman said. She had had to leave the court as details of the men’s sexual relations with the teenagers were read out. After the trial, Ms Cryer said that young Pakistani men were caught between two cultures having been brought up in a Western society in families while retaining the cultural values of the Asian sub-continent.

She said: “The family and cultural norms of their community means they are expected to marry a first cousin or other relative back in a village in Mirapur or wherever the family comes from. Therefore, until that marriage is arranged they look out for sex.

“At the point in their lives when they are ready for this sort of activity, Muslims cannot go to Muslim girls because it would be a terrible breach of the honour of the community and their family to have sex with an Muslim girl before marriage.” She said that the reason Muslim men targeted very young white girls was because older white girls knew that a relationship with an Muslim youth was unlikely to last as the community would seek an arranged marriage with someone from the Asian sub- continent. Police and groups campaigning to protect women insisted that the grooming of youngsters is not segregated along race lines, though there is concern at the attitudes of some young Pakistani Muslim men towards white girls.

Parents claim that criminal networks are able to prey on young girls because the authorities are reluctant to tackle the issue for fear of upsetting race relations in areas of the North West with large ethnic minority communities.

Over the last few years the Sikh youth have raised their concerns over the conduct of Sikh ethics by some Gurdwara Sahibs committees in the UK.
One issue that is particularly alarming is the increasing number of non-Sikhs participating the holy Anand Karaj ceremony.

Some feel that this is an extreme step and Sikhi should be accessible to all, regardless of faith.

The Gurdwara Sahib is open to all, regardless of race of religion; it is what makes Sikhi so universal. However one must abide by the regulations for the acceptable conduct of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Gurdwara Sahib Leamington & Warwick will be hosting a Sri Anand Karaj ceremony on Sunday 29th July 2007.

S Kaur will wed Viresh Vaja, son of Mr Bhagwanji Vaja and Mrs Vilash Vaja.

Viresh Veja is of Gujarati Hindu background and has confirmed he has no knowledge of Sikhi and does not understand the significance of Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

He has also confirmed he is only participating in the Anand Karaj ceremony on request of the girl’s parents.

Committee’s Ignorance

The Committee booked this Anand Karaj ceremony with total disregard of Gurudwara Code of conduct, and Sikh ethics.

They failed to even register the name of the groom, and were completely ignorant his religious beliefs – a total lack of professionalism.

Once the Sikh youth had raised their concerns, the committee held a meeting with youth representatives on Sun 1st July and had acknowledged their wrongdoings –yet certain members are adamant to go ahead with the ceremony.

In a meeting between Panjabi-Sikh youth representatives from various Jathabandhis, Panjabi vigilantes and Religious respect movements, a message of solidarity was portrayed.

Over the last few weeks the Midlands Panjabi-Sikh community have seen evidence of grooming & brainwashing, protests against extremism and the disrespect of the ‘Gurdwara code of conduct’.

Youth groups recognised the need to unite against elements that affect the Chardikala of the Panjabi-Sikh community and the Khalsa Panth.

Police and Media Ignorance

Following the Anti-extremism rally on 9th June where 200 Panjabi-Sikh youth protested against extremism in the UK (please refer to

), a statement from the Police stated, “there is no evidence of forced conversions”.

This statement is ridiculous because the term ‘forced conversion’ (gun to the head type of conversion) was never raised by any Sikh body (only mentioned by Hindu forum of Britain), nor was it mentioned during Rally. The placards during the rally stated “Sikhs will not tolerate extremist behaviour” and “Sikhs against FALSE conversions”. Cleary the police are clueless when it comes to the issues of:

Radicalisation
Grooming & Brainwashing
Racially motivated sexual exploitation
Extremist preaching in schools, colleges and Universities

Then they wonder why we have a growing problem with homegrown extremism in the UK.

The same goes for the culturally insensitive BBC-Asian network. Again, failing to recognise, or perhaps conveniently choosing not to recognise the concerns of the Sikh youth.
Ironically the idiots from BBC-Asian network were present at the Rally and had interviewed the protestors and had obtained a copy of the handout. Yet they reported it as a rally against ‘Gun-to-the-Head’ type forced conversions.

Return to Vigilantism?

Believing that the Police are choosing not to take action against extremist preaching and extremist gangs, Panjabi-Sikh youth are calling for a return to vigilantism of the past.

Kaka Gill from the Panjabi Youth movement, “If the police won’t monitor extremist preachers in schools, colleges and universities, then we will”

“If they think its ok for guys in the 30’s to stand outside schools and colleges trying to entice girls with drugs and fancy cars then its up to us to protect our community.”

“There are no laws against grooming, brainwashing, racially motivated sexual exploitation and deception (i.e. wearing a Kara for dishonest means). Does that mean the Panjabi-Sikh community should resign to suffering in silence?”

Non-Sikh Marriages in Gurdwara Sahibs

For the protection of Sikh ethics, the Respectful conduct of Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the preservation of the Khalsa Panth in the UK, the issue of Non-Sikh marriages in Gurdwara Sahibs was addressed.

The youth bodies and vigilante groups unanimously agreed that Non-Sikhs by birth should only be allowed to marry in a Gurdwara Sahib if they have accepted Sikhi through the conventional means (Amrit sanchar ceremony).
In a case where the Gurdwara committee feel the marriage has legitimate reasons to go ahead; then a press release should be released prior to the wedding explaining their reasons why, after which a meeting will be held.

Those Gurdwara committees who oppose this will face heavy protests and objections from Sikh youth groups, and the members responsible will be highlighted to the wider Sikh community.

A marriage is also an oath, and in the presence of ‘Jaag di Jhot’ Dhan Guru Granth Sahib Ji only those who have accepted Guru Granth Sahib Ji as their Guru should be taking marriages vows - otherwise it’s a mockery of the system, and disrespect to Guru Sahib”

The Police “3-week” Inquiry into Aggressive Conversions

Concerns of targeted extremist grooming and radicalization of Sikh youth have been raised by the Sikh community since the 1990’s.

The Sikh community recognized back then that the problem of aggressive grooming or radicalization fell into a ‘grey area’ in the law, and some methods of conversion, although aggressive in nature, did not breach any laws.

Methods of conversions that worry the Sikh community:

1. Groomed Aggressive conversions - lawful
2. Aggressive conversions- unlawful

Groomed Aggressive conversion – Lawful Methods

Brainwashing & Grooming: Extremist mind control employs the same tactics and strategies of social influence. They are variants of well-known social psychological principles of compliance, conformity, persuasion, dissonance, reactance, framing, emotional manipulation, and others that are used on all of us daily to entice us to; buy, to try, to donate, to vote, to join, to change, to believe, to love, to hate the enemy.
Extremist mind control is not different in kind from these everyday varieties, but in greater intensity, persistence, duration, and scope. One difference is in its greater efforts to block quitting the group, by imposing high exit costs, replete with induced phobias of harm, failure, and personal isolation.

Many Extremist groups use unethical persuasion tactics in recruiting and retaining converts. These methods can range from Love Bombing* and emotional scare tactics (imposing high exit costs, e.g. convincing a person that leaving the group means losing one's salvation).

*Love Bombing: The practice of some extremist movements to shower new converts or prospects with extra love and attention. Seen by many as an unethical persuasion tactic designed to hinder critical thinking regarding the pros and cons of joining or remaining with the group.

Illicit relationship conversions: The process where young girls are pre-selected on the basis of their religion/beliefs race/ethnicity to initially form seemingly innocent relationships, with the hidden agenda of conversion down the line. This practise is motivated by extremist religious views.

Aggressive conversions – unlawful

As above, but enforced with physical blackmail and/or violence.

Stigma, Victims and the Police

We must understand cultural taboos and the historic significance of these practises, and then one can understand the stigma attached to these acts.

The stigma can be compared to rape victims in the past, where victims were labelled with taboos, such as “she must have asked for it”. After large-scale campaigns in the 1960’s, i.e. “Speak Out on Rape” did victims come forward and peruse prosecution.

Now one looks at victims of extremist preaching and brainwashing in the UK:

It took years for the government to recognise that we have a problem with extremism in the UK i.e. “These fanatics are looking to groom and brainwash (British) children” - John Reid, the Home Secretary 2006.

Therefore a “3 week police inquiry” into extremist conversions, as reported by the BBC Asian-network is not sufficiant in uncovering such a sensitive and deep-rooted problem.

Cases of blackmail or violence in the past that had been directly or indirectly associated with religious conversions had been reported as just that, blackmail or violence and not ‘forced conversions’.

There are two broad categories when defining victims of extremist conversions;

A) Those that have converted.

B)Those that were pressured but refused.

A) Those that have converted, and are living in the company of extremists are under enormous pressure to continue in that faith;

B)Those that did not convert are reluctant to speak out because of cultural stigmas within their community and also they feel nothing will result of it, i.e. lawful aggressive grooming tactics (highlighted above) are not a criminal offence.

Way Forward

Radical preachers who target impressionable Muslim men are encouraging extremism and aggressive conversions.

We urge the police now to research and clamp down on extremist preaching and practises that act to incite aggressive conversions and grooming.

We want unregulated and unauthorised extremist preaching banned in schools, colleges and universities.

A government funded confidential help line for victims of aggressive religious conversions.

BBC Asian Network

We feel the BBC Asian Network telephone call-in that took place on the morning of 20 June 2007 was culturally insensitive, and again tried to sensationalise the problem. Encouraging victims to speak about traumatic experiences live on-air to an unqualified representative, we feel downgraded the seriousness of the problem.
We feel the BBC should have listed a confidential qualified counsellor to its listeners to whom they could contact regarding this highly sensitive issue.

In terms of highlighting concerns of the Sikh youth, the youth rally that took place in Birmingham on 10 June 2007, was against extremist behaviour and aggressive conversions. The placards and handout clearly stated this, Quote:

“Sikh Youth Stand United Against:

Radicalisation
Grooming and Brainwashing
Fundamentalists and Extremists
Racially motivated sexual exploitation of young girls”

Yet the BBC reported this as a rally against ‘forced conversions’, when in fact the Sikh youth were crying out for a clamp down on extremist preaching and extremist behaviour in schools, colleges and university.

British Panjabi-Sikh youth took to the streets of Birmingham demanding police protection from Islamic extremism.

Protesters chanted and held up placards as they marched from Soho Road, in Handsworth, to West Midlands Police headquarters at Lloyd House.

Their demands - greater police protection from Islamic extremists who targeted Sikh youth at Schools, colleges and Universities and a ban on unregulated and unauthorised preachers that groom and brainwash youth in British institutions.

Sikh Youth Representatives Meeting with Police Chiefs

Following the march to Lloyd house on Saturday by some 200 Sikh youth expressing their concerns regarding the targeted grooming of young women by fundamentalists a meeting was held with the police and representatives of the Sikh youth today 11 June 2007 at Lloyd house.

The agenda of this meeting was not about faith, but the implication of mainland British security and activities by fundamentalist within UK schools, colleges and universities.

The issues raised and discussed were:-

Explore opportunities for police and the Sikh youth to develop a constructive partnership of working together
The "conversion" of a devout Sikh to change from one faith to another warrants further investigation as to the motives and tactics employed in this process. This is especially relevant when one considers that of the four 7/7 bombers and the shoe bomber, 2 were recent converts. And if someone can be groomed to change their faith, they can equally be groomed to carry out an act of violence.
There are increasing number of such cases across communities where young people are being targeted at UK colleges and universities
The psychological welfare of the girl that promoted this community reaction and further investigation of the individual who is associated with this girl and himself a recent convert from Christanity.

Most importantly, It was also highlighted that should any act of atrocity be carried out as a result of these groomed conversions, then the Police have been alerted to activities in Midland based colleges and universities, as a result of this meeting by the Sikh youth.
The meeting was constructive and taken seriously by the Police with positive steps towards developing a longer term working relationships.

Five men have been found guilty of plotting to kill hundreds of Britons in an al-Qaeda-linked bomb plot. The international conspiracy included links to the 7 July 2005 London bombings

One of the men was Jawad Akbar, described by the trial judge as having "intelligence and disturbing deviousness".

Akbar lived in Pakistan until the age of eight when his family moved to Italy for two years and then to Crawley where his father worked as a manager for a catering firm.

He was a third-year student at Brunel University in West London where he attended prayer circles which, he said, "send people to fight". He set up a Sunday school at Langley Green mosque in Crawley.

To the outside world Jawad Akbar would have come across as a normal young man of Pakistani origin.

But underneath the veneer, Akbar nursed a burning sense of resentment and hatred towards the society in which he lived.

Akbar bore a deep hatred of non-Muslims, who he referred to by the derogatory term of kuffars or kufs, meaning unbelievers not worthy of protection.

"When we kill the kuf, this is because we know Allah hates the kufs," he told his wife.

Akbar also referred to Tony Blair as being a "dirty kuffar"

The Daily Telegraph: “But he (Jawad Akbar) had a stormy secret relationship with a Sikh girlfriend and was heard telling her: "You will walk towards hellfire and drag me with you."”

Sarabha Panjab found ex-Brunel University students who had known Jawad Akbar and his Sikh “girlfriend”.

Ex-student Jay,said he had studied alongside Jawad Akbar for a year at Brunel University and was familiar to Jawads Sikh girlfriend.

Sarabha Panjab: Thank you for taking time to talk to us today. We have followed the Old Baily trial, which found 5 men guilty of plotting to kill hundreds of Britons. One of the 5 men is Jawad Akbar.

Sarabha Panjab: Could you please describe his character.

Jay: I knew Jawad to be quite a popular guy, he was usually surrounded by friends and always shaking peoples hands.

One thing that was apparent is that he only really kept Muslim company. Rarely spoke to other students. Me being an Indian, it was always “hi and bye”, he never made more conversation than that.

Sarabha Panjab: Did he ever express his ideology on non-Muslim Students

Jay: Never to me. But I do know his friends and associates often spoke against other faiths to promote their own. I know several occasions when ‘hard line’ Muslim students mocked other faiths, namely Judaism, Hinduism and Sikhism

Sarabha Panjab: Why do you think they mocked other religions?

Jay: I guess it was their way of getting non-Muslims to convert to Islam

Sarabha Panjab: We have been made aware of many Hindu and Sikh students who have been radicalised into Islam at universities. Did you see any evidence of this whilst you studied at Brunel University?

Jay: Yes. I do know Hindu and Sikh guys and girls who have converted to Islam whilst at university.

Sarabha Panjab: Tell us about Jawad Akbars Sikh girlfriend and their relationship

Jay: I knew Miss “K” as friendly out-going girl. It was common knowledge amongst students that their relationship was volatile. I know it had been violent too.

I don’t think he respected her much. His friends would refer to her as ‘Sikhni’ and snigger behind her back. I had heard this myself and found it to be racist.

Sarabha Panjab: According to BBC reports. Jawad and Miss “K” had married and a court order prevents his wife being named as her family and friends still do not know of the marriage. Did you know of this?

Jay: I had no idea

Sarabha Panjab: What do you think made her stay in an abusive relationship with Jawad?

Jay: I really don’t know! It baffles me. I think it may have been a combination of fear of Jawad, and the mind manipulation used by him to scare her into Islam.

Three men were injured as youth gangs fought in Bradford on Friday night. About 10 Panjabi Sikh youth made their way to a council estate in Bradford, Yorkshire, where they believed a Panjabi girl was kept against her will and being exploited by a gang of perverted Pakistani Muslim men.

It follows the mysterious disappearance of Miss “S” from Derby University, where she was studying for a Master’s Degree.
Worried family and friends said she became “distant” over the few weeks leading to her disappearance.
Sikh students on campus were alarmed to see her driven around by local Pakistani drug pushers in the early hours of the night.
“I have known her (Miss “S”) for 3 years, she has always been sensible and kept good company. We are all very concerned about her safety, said a fellow student.

After speaking to the girl’s parents, Panjabi Sikh youth were convinced that this was another case of blackmail, brainwashing or manipulation by predatory Pakistani Muslim men. The whereabouts of Miss “S” was traced to a flat in Bradford.

“We went there with the intention of speaking to Miss “S”, just to see if she was okay, but were nevertheless prepared to meet violent opposition” said Teja Singh, who was present during the confrontation,
“We were greeted with racist abuse by one man, and within 5 minutes three cars full of youth showed up, that’s when things got a bit ugly. After a few initial exchanges of words, it kicked off. We fought and chased them down the main road, and dispersed when the police arrived” explained Teja Singh.

“It’s not about childish street gang fights or about dominance, I don’t give a crap about all that. I will not stand by while our Sikh sisters are being exploited! I would have done the same if the gang were of any race. We are not racist, we are just protecting our sisters from perverts” said another youth present that evening.

Miss “S” made contact with her family that night and members of her family picked her up from Bradford in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A Sikh community leader could lose his vision after an assailant threw corrosive chemicals on his face.
Assistant general secretary of the Sikh gurdwara in Leeds, Amarjit Singh Uppal, 49, is in hospital undergoing treatment for burns but it is feared that the damage could result in permanent blindness.
Uppal was attacked as he arrived at his house in Moortown in Leeds Tuesday.
While the motive for the attack is not known, police believe Uppal was the intended target, Yorkshire Post reported.
“This is a nasty attack and the victim may be permanently blinded. The victim is a family man who is not known to the police in any way. It is a horrendous attack. The injuries are serious and catastrophic for his and his family’s life,” said Detective Inspector Adrian Taylor.
Police are conducting fingerprint searches around Uppal’s house and said the suspect was a black who ran away after the attack.
Neighbours described Uppal, father of four children, as a quiet and respectable family man.
“It’s a horrendous attack. I have no idea at all why someone would do this to him,” said a neighbour.

A teenager has been charged with the murder of a man who was stabbed at a bus stop in east London. Jaspreet Singh was attacked as he and a friend waited for a night bus in Chapel Road, Ilford, early on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was taken to King George Hospital, Goodmayes, but died from a single stab wound to the heart.
Kamuzu Munroe, 19, of Ilford, is due to appear before Redbridge Magistrates' Court on Monday charged with murder. Police have appealed for witnesses.

According to police, the two friends had got off the number 123 bus outside Greggs bakery in Ilford town centre, before walking to Chapel Road to wait for the number 369 night bus.
An argument then broke out at about 0100 BST and Mr Singh was stabbed, police said.
Earlier, Det Ch Insp John MacDonald said they had now spoken to the victim's friend but still wanted to hear from any other witnesses.
"We believe that there were people at the bus stop who witnessed the altercation who then got on the 369 bus. We need these people to come forward."

The grooming of Panjabi girls for sex by predatory Muslim men is an increasing problem for the Panjabi community, with this vile practise taking place throughout towns and cities across Britain.

According to Hindu and Sikh Support groups and community leaders, girls as young as 13 have been targeted by gangs of mainly Pakistani-Muslim men. These men initially engage in seemingly innocent relationships with ‘Kuffr’ girls (non-Muslim). These girls are showered in attention and lured with gifts, drinks and cigarettes.

“The process is very common,” says Miss Patel, a youth counsellor working within the Hindu community,

“It starts with young lads who roam outside colleges and schools in fancy cars. Once relationships are formed with these girls, the abuse begins.

They introduce the girls to drink and drugs. ‘Date-Rape’ drug (GHB) is also widely used.
Nude pictures are taken and then the girl is told that these pictures will be shown to her parents if she does not obey they’re orders.

We have known girls passed for sex to the boys uncles and cousins, even through Taxi ranks!”

Looking outside of the Indian community, the grooming of white girls for prostitution by Muslim Gangs has been previously highlighted.

Lancashire Police revealed in 2006 that, around 50 East Lancashire victims aged under 16 had been identified by special police and social services teams set up to combat the menace but they believe as many as 100 could be involved.

Despite all the victims being white and the perpetrators from Muslim Pakistani community Lancashire Police denied this was a “racist issue”. Supt Neil Smith said:
"This is not a racist issue. It is about the exploitation of vulnerable young girls for sex."

Human Misery

The human misery inflicted by Racially-Motivated sexual grooming was reported in the Evening Telegraph by the mother of one 15-year-old who has been recruited into prostitution spoke out after her daughter took an overdose to try and escape the circle.

The mum, who lives in the Grimshaw Park area of Blackburn, said despite fears over her own and her daughter, she felt compelled to try and safeguard other children in the area from "sexual predators."

She said: "I fear my daughter is going to end up either a drug addict, gang raped, infected with HIV or even worse killed. Her life means nothing to these people."

This problem is massive in the Blackburn area and the parent of every teenage girl must be told what is going on.

"I feel hopeless. She is inundated with calls throughout the night from people not only across Blackburn but as far away as Bradford and Manchester and when I've answered and pretended to be her the things they have said to me have been disgusting."

This weekly Panthic Weekly brings the story of a Sikh mother's pain after her son was groomed into converting to Islam.

Students who have been close to extremist Muslims at colleges and universities have said that Islamic Groups tell students who convert to keep "Allah in your heart", which means keep it a secret from your family. This is a tactic employed by cults whose aim is to isolate the target from the family. The word 'al Taqiyya' means concealing or disguising ones belief, convictions, ideas, opinions, feelings and strategies at a time of eminent danger to save one from physical or mental injury, or for the prosperity and welfare of Islam. The website Sikh4Life.co.uk, provides a list of strategies and tactics used by extremist Islamists to groom Sikh students to convert. Some of the tactics used are:

a) Target Sikh boys and girls especially those who are:
* Poorly educated about their religious concepts
* Enjoy dating, drinking etc

b) Promote low-level dialogue
* Do you believe in God, why not?
* Koran is scientifically proven, attacks on Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji
* Invitation to meetings/discussion groups

c) Provide surrogate 'family'/immediate group of 'friend' for students living away from home

d) Target Vulnerable Groups
* Living away from home
* Broken family, child does not get attention or love at home
* Weak minded individuals
* Personal problems - Death in family, abusive parent, forced marriage, pressure to wear turban

Mother of Sikh Student at Kingston University who converted to Islam talks about her pain

22nd July 2006: A mother's intuition sometimes tells you something is not right. I was due to go to a religious function with friends and for some reason I kept coming back into the house and my eldest son was very jittery and nervous and it just didn't sit well with me. I asked him what was the matter and he said nothing, he was very nervous and said, "Go mum I'm fine" and he shut the door of his room which sent alarm bells. I re-opened the door to look inside, there was a mat on the floor and I just knew, I had a gut feeling that he was praying. I asked him if he was praying. He got angry and defensive and told me it's nothing forget it. I phoned my father and took my son to see him. He went very reluctantly. There he told us that he had converted to Islam.

At this stage, I took advice from anyone who was prepared to help. I went to the Sikh University in Harrow. There they questioned him and he had no answers to their questions. He said that the only way to go to Allah was through Mohammed.

Through the Sikh University I met numerous educated Baptised Sikhs who agreed to talk to him and his Muslim brothers. His Muslim brothers came to the meetings and badgered, abused and bullied the Sikh boys about their beliefs. Every time my son was asked questions about his conversion, he had no answers. He would run back to the mosque to find out the answers to their questions. It was clear that he went into this religion with his eyes shut and his Muslim brothers were controlling him.

At that time my relationship with my son was intolerable. I cried night after night, ran out of my house hoping that a car would hit me. I would crawl on my knees and beg him to consider the consequences with an elderly grandfather and heartbroken fiancé. He would just sit there like a stone and say come mum I will show you the light. He would never give me eye contact and he would be always be living on nervous energy, he was always conversing with his Muslim brothers who gave him support. He had his henchmen dictating his every action and every move.

My son said that in Islam we respect Allah, then your mother, then your mother, then your mother.... so why was he causing me so much pain.

They picked on my son's vulnerability i.e., away from home attending university; grandmother's sudden death and he needed someone to turn to. I could not be there for him as I was looking after my sick father and other children at home. He got into debates about death with his university Muslim brothers and they would take him into meetings to answer his questions. All the time he was told not to talk about these meetings, even with his girlfriend. From there they gave him leaflets and brochures to educate himself, which was kept hidden. Later these Muslim brothers invited him to play football in their teams.

He was engaged and due to get married in 2007. It turned out that he told his fiancé and tried to convert her and told her to keep it quiet and not to tell me until he was ready. The hardest and most painful thing was to invite his fiancé's parents to the house and tell them that my son had converted to Islam. I have never felt so low and this devastated the whole family, especially my elderly father who was looking forward to the wedding. My father wished that he had died instead of having to witness this betrayal. In relation to my mother's death, my father commented, 'thank God she did not have to witness this'.

I have not given up hope, I always believe in my faith. I felt the Gurdwara let me down because they were too busy making money and running for elections. I do feel that I have let my son down and I wasn't there when he needed me the most and I do believe that no mother or family should ever, ever have to go through this. He has repeatedly told me to convert. I get scared to send him anywhere with my youngest son as numerous times he has tried to prime him.

He has transformed from being warm and loving to being cold and egotistical. He gloats when he hears that another Sikh has been converted. As a Muslim boy in a Sikh family he wants to save us so that we will go to heaven with him and not hell without him.

I felt suicidal I wanted him dead and kept telling him that I wished he'd died at birth so I wouldn't have to go through this. I tried to hold the family together but everything was falling apart and every look he gave me and every action he took was like a knife in my heart. I believe this is hell and my safe world blew up and got destroyed by evil. I felt that my loving, gentle giant turned into a brainwashed robot. If this is his version of love to his mother then I do wish that Allah can have him.

Panthic Weekly would like to thank the Sikh Mother for sharing her story. Her story illustrates how vulnerable students are preyed upon, however more seriously the vulnerability is based on ignorance and the failings of the Sikh community and parents to provide support and comfort to youngsters. Sikh community leaders and parents need to awake to their responsibilities to educate and inspire Sikh youngsters with Gurbani and Sikh history. With no knowledge of our own faith, we make ourselves vulnerable and weak. The Sikh youth need to be made aware of these challenges before they go to school, college or University. If a youngster is aware of the issues and are armed with knowledge, they will never be swayed. The Guru has taught us to rise above anger, lust, greed, attachment and ego-centeredness and to respond with a calm and collective conscious.

Extremist Muslims justify their disturbingly predatory behaviour with the Quran saying: "No compulsion is prescribed in religion" (Quran: II, 256-257). Sikh history bears witness of extremist Muslims forcefully taking women, aggressive conversions and penalties of death and barbaric tortures against those who resisted the aggressive religious zeal of Islam.
Sir Ian Blair, the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, announced that the police are working with universities to clamp down on the practice of 'Aggressive Conversion' that has seen girls beaten up and forced to abandon university courses. The most at risk are vulnerable Sikh or Hindu girls who are subjected to intimidation, threats of being dishonoured and beatings by Muslim men who take them out for dates and bombard them with flattery before beginning a crusade of 'terrorism' until they convert to Islam.
Many befriend their victims then threaten to tell their families that they are in a sexual relationship with a Muslim. Some teenagers are drugged, sometimes by Muslim female accomplices and then photographed by abuser(s) in compromising positions, which leads to campaign of blackmail and further sexual and emotional abuse through mental manipulation. Muslims have advertised to pay £5,000 for every person converted to Islam in parts of the country.
Last November, Bill Rammell, Higher Education minister, claimed university campuses had become focal points for Islamic extremism. Police are aware of the problem. Sir Ian Blair recently attended a Hindu conference where the issue was raised. But police are powerless to act unless incidents are reported. This rarely happens because the stigma of a child converting to Islam often silences Sikh and Hindu parents. Community elders say that the practice is widespread but their estimates vary from 100 annual incidents nationwide to 120 in the past few months in the South East alone.
Ranjeet Singh, of the British Organisation of Sikh Students, said: "There are cases of aggressive techniques, of drugging and of rape, of the man taking photos and blackmailing the girls into converting. They know that by dishonouring the girls, they will make their families disown them. In the past few months there have been about 120 cases in Luton and the South East. It's a problem that has been going on for a while, but a lot of people are reluctant to come forward and there's not much being done." He added, "Some girls are very innocent and vulnerable when they go to university. Then these men befriend them. We know of some whose lives have been ruined."
One member of the Sikh community who has been actively involved in dealing with hundreds of cases of hate crimes targeting Sikhs, in particular young girls, by Muslim men said: "This is very much taboo. These issues have been going on for many years and come to the boil at university. I deal with many very serious cases. There are horrific examples of abuse and blackmail, with men saying they're going to tell the girl's parents. Then they're pretty much trapped. We call it "groomed conversions". Some of the girls go through with it because they feel they have no choice." He added, "The men start a relationship with them, with the agenda of conversion down the line. Sometimes they take a picture of her in a compromising position. It's so easy with camera phones. An 18-year-old girl ends up in a situation that she can't control." He said that the extremists were exploiting the Sikh community's tendency to treat conversion as a grave dishonour, adding: "That's a cultural mindset we need to tackle. It's the worst thing you could face - worse than bankruptcy or losing your job."
For over a decade the Sikh community has been this serious issue and the safety of young girls and students with the Metropolitan Police. However, little was done to reassure the Sikh community that they were safe from hate crimes by extremist Muslims in colleges, universities and cities where there is a large Muslim presence. A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman confirmed that officers had attended a Hindu security conference last month and that they are aware of the concerning issue, however require further research of specific incidents reported to the police. She said, "We would encourage anyone who has been targeted in this way to seek help." However, shame, intimidation and fear of violence by the abusers prevents many young and vulnerable victims from coming forward to their families or the police.

London, UK (KP) - Last week Panthic Weekly covered the news that the London Metropolitan Police has recognise the aggressive conversion tactics of Muslims against Sikh and Hindu female students at colleges and Universities. This week Panthic Weekly brings the account of one young Sikh female who recently graduated from Luton University who recognises and can relate the threats posed by extremist Muslims.
Unfortunately many of the victims of the grooming, intimidation and blackmailing are either to ashamed to share their story with the public or wish to forget what has happened with them as they are now married off. Other girls feel scared or threatened and end up suffering depression and suffering in silence. Panthic Weekly is thankful that this female Sikh victim of Islamists racially targeting Sikhs has had the courage to share her story with Sikh4Life.co.uk and Panthic Weekly.
Female Sikh Student harassed and intimidated at Luton University by Islamists:
I took one look back at my bedroom, closed my eyes shut and asked Waheguru to guide me in the right direction then stepped into the passenger seat of dad's car.
The journey of my first ever day of moving out of my parents house to a life of independence was to a life of standing on my own two feet. My heart was pounding with part butterflies in the stomach and part happiness.
I arrived at the flat and moved everything in. The second day I was on the phone to my parents crying to bring me back home - That's one thing probably almost every student does.
Before I got to Uni I had just discovered the one thing that changed my thinking, my attitude, my way of life for ever - I discovered Sikhism. The 'A LEVEL' in Sikhism was a God send for me. I became attached to reading up on every resource on Sikhism that I could get my hands on: Gurbani reading, history, stories, shabads… anything. I became ultimately in love with God, Guru and Sikhism. The last 21 years of my life seemed like nothing up until now. My parents were shocked on my change, but I didn't realise how I'd been swept off my feet and how hungry I was to meet God.
So now at university I still continued to research Sikhism. I went to London Society meetings not knowing anyone or anything about them. I went to any local Kirtan and was practically at the Gurdwara every other evening to listen to the Katha and Kirtan.
I came across just ONE Gursikh, not only in my course but within the WHOLE University. I felt as if I was the only Sikh at the uni and this made me feel slightly upset at times. I was used to seeing the group of Islamists walking around the campus and discussing religion, I saw Hindus and Christians but no Sikhs.
The next day I was at the Student Union discussing the opening of a Sikh society and filling in paperwork. Me and Mr Singh ji (my fellow student) now promoted the new Sikh society to others of the university, there were other Sikhs whom we had not yet met.
Soon after this the Islamic Society became aware of the new Sikh Society and president (me). From that day on I was receiving hoax calls from unknown numbers and getting indirectly harassed from Muslims who were threatened by the Sikh society.
We did not retaliate but kept our heads up continuing to make posters and organising regular meetings. With an amazing turnout of 30 Sikh students it was obvious that Guru ji had this all in place well. We were so happy and held a bigger event later in the year. Our posters were continually pulled off the walls, ripped up and either left on the floor or thrown in the bin. But yet we continued producing posters and sticking them up around the campus.
It got worse when I started getting a black car following me home and to uni every day. It was scary and I had doubts at one point of whether "I should continue what I had started?" But for some reason I felt compelled and even stronger to continue the Sikh Society and build my network. The aim became to unite Sikhs within and around Luton.
This way the Sikh Society grew and we got more problems with Muslims in Luton. We had threatening emails, Muslims men would come to our Sikh Society meetings and sit at the back in disguise (wearing a Kara) observing the content of our discussions. They would attempt to talk to the female youth at the Sikh societies. The Muslim students would frequently stop me after lectures and challenge me to questions and ask me what I found in opening a Sikh society? I just smiled and replied with "I have found my life and my path".
I think that at the end it was the unshakable faith which they witnessed within me that scared them and made them want to put their guards up. They would try anything to distract us from the Sikh Society - send Muslim boys and girls to make friendships with us and other members of the Sikh Society but by that time I had already warned others as a caution. They would pester Sikh youth for going out for drinks and parties and say things like "Hey sister/brother come to lunch with us, its on me" - notice the words "sister/brother" attempting to sound like they are the same as you. This is yet another tactic used to make you feel like your part of a huge family- their family. They will also try to be too familiar with you another warning signal!
Obviously during all this happening I did not tell my parents as they would naturally get worried and encourage me to keep out of it all.
But throughout all this, throughout the three years at Luton University of ups and downs there was a driving force behind us which kept us continuing the sewa that we could. WE DID NOT GIVE UP. I was scared yes, I was harassed, I was followed, I was threatened and confused but we continued the Sikh Society.
That driving force was perseverance, motivation and most importantly it was the love for Gurbani which grew inside me stronger and stronger just like a fountain over filling with water.
I think now that we were lucky and I realise that wherever we go in life Guru is with us 'ang sang' (by our side) he always preserves our honour. I met people from all walks of life during my time away, good and bad, that's something we all go through - its how we maintain ourselves during that time which is important.
From personal experience, 60-70% of all female students who go to study at the University of Luton or Bradford have either returned home converted to Islam or have returned home a different person. It's so tough to survive the world of conversions and I can proudly say that having returned home after 3 years at Luton University I did not convert, but returned home stronger.
It's much harder for girls in a way as we can sometimes be vulnerable and those whom lack knowledge on Sikhism are especially weak targets. Having learnt this I self-taught myself and I advise all other young girls and guys to do the same. Every religion is lovely in its own way and we should be open-minded to all of them. However, before you get taken into another religion or asked questions be prepared, learn about your own faith, dig deep and keep digging like I did until you find your answers! You'll find a treasure that no other person in the world can offer you.

A young Punjabi-Sikh student who was racially attacked by a mob of girls on a bus recently accused the driver and other passengers of turning a blind eye to her ordeal.

Ramanpreet Kaur Bhalla said her pleas for help were ignored as she was left at the mercy of the teenage racist thugs who dragged her from the vehicle and laid into her.

The 19-year-old student said the experience had "shattered her faith in humanity" and left her scared to travel on public transport.

Travel chiefs promised an urgent investigation. Footage from on-board CCTV cameras has been recovered and handed to police.

The incident has raised the issue about whether members of the public should step in to help fellow citizens defend themselves from violence, over recent months there have been many such attacks on members of the Punjabi-Sikh community.

Ramanpreet said: "I was so shocked no-one wanted to help me. They could all see what was happening to me but stood by and did nothing.
"We're all human and should help each other out."

She added: "Because of what happened, I can't go back on the bus any more."
The A-Level student, who plans to study psychology, was travelling home on the number 11 bus when the attack happened.

She said a gang of eight black girls started causing trouble with other passengers, forcing the driver to stop the bus at the Greenhill Road junction on Rookery Road, Handsworth, Birmingham.

As Ramanpreet joined passengers to get off the bus the gangs of girls barged into her.

"One of them spat in my face," said Ramanpreet, who lives in Handsworth with her parents.

"They grabbed my hair and dragged me off the bus and onto the pavement. They kicked me and slapped me.

"I was scared. They were in a group and I was on my own. No one did anything to help me, I couldn't believe it.

"They could have had a knife. I could have been stabbed. "I was shouting 'Help, please, someone help me'. But the bus driver and passengers just stood there. No one lifted a finger."

The gang eventually fled with Ramanpreet's purse containing cash and valuables.

A spokesman for Travel West Midlands said: "We have identified the bus and driver, who has now been interviewed.

"It is clear there was a scuffle and there was little support coming from other passengers.

"We are still actively investigating the incident and will be supporting the police in their investigation."

There have been many such racially motivated attacks targeting the Punjabi-Sikh community and in most cases the perpetrators are usually Blacks and Muslims. The Punjabi-Sikh community need to ensure that they are reporting any such incidents to the relevant authorities and ensuring that they seek justice through campaigning and pressure groups, where they feel that little is being done by the authorities.

Across the country many Pakistani men engage in relationships with non-Pakistani girls. The majority of these girls assume they hold a genuine long-term relationship and possibility of marriage.

In recent years it has been well documented these girlfriends are usually kept as short-term pre-marital ‘flings’. Once a family instructed arranged-marriage has been conducted these girlfriends are abandoned.

But what happens to those who are not abandoned, and do end up marrying these men?

SarabhaPanjab spoke to ‘Seema’ (real name was not disclosed)

Seema spoke about her 5-year marriage living with her ex-husband Amir and his parents in a small house in the north of England.

SarabhaPanjab: Seema, tell us about how the relationship began.

Seema: We met at college when I was 17 years old. I guess it was your typical story of girl meets boy. I fell for him straight away. He was kind, considerate and a charmer. His mates would all look after me, pick me up from college in their cars and basically looked out for me. I loved the attention, although I did often wonder if it would work due to our different religious backgrounds.
He always assured me that it will never be an issue and that we were made for each other.

SarabhaPanjab: How did the relationship progress?

Seema: Well after college Amir started working in his dads take-away and I went off to uni. I was living away from my hometown, which gave me the freedom to see him whenever I wanted. He would stay round my flat and everything seemed ok.
Into my second year of uni the relationship turned sour. He began cheating on me. I had other girls calling me saying they found my number in his mobile phone. He would show up at my flat drunk and demand sex. I felt like a toy being used. But my self-pride got the better of me, I still thought I could change him and make him into the person I first met.
He had a way with words; he always assured me that I was the only one for him when he needed me…(pause) and I always fell for it.

SarabhaPanjab: How did you get married?

Seema: I knew his parents wanted him to marry a Pakistani girl and that they were eager to seen him married. Then he went to Pakistan and when he came back he said he had been introduced to a girl. This is when reality hit home. I was about to lose the love of my life. I plucked up the courage to tell my father. My mother had passed away when I was young. I already knew how he would react. He was deeply disappointed, he told me he wanted to meet my boyfriend to see what kind of person he is. I Invited Amir to meet him, but he never did. Few months later we had a registry wedding. No one from my family attended, it was just his mates and his parents.

SarabhaPanjab: How was married life?

Seema: For 5 years I lived an isolated life. I was beaten regularly, raped and mocked by all his relations. They would call me racist names and would mock my family and their traditions.

My family didn't know about it because I was always putting up this front to cover up.
I contacted the Police on two occasions but I never had the courage to follow it up. His brothers and cousins were all told to keep a look out in case I left.

SarbhaPanjab: How did you eventually break out?

Seema: I got hold of an asian women’s refuge centre. The representative was understanding and gave me the courage to leave.

Sarabha Panjab: How is life now?

Seema: Now I work for the very centre that saved my life. I owe them everything, and I am helping other women in similar circumstances.

Seema says she sees many victims who are facing similar abuse to what she faced. Her advice;

“Young women should be educated into the possible dangers of relationships from a young age. The Hindu and Sikh community need to highlight and tackle the serious problem of ‘racial grooming’ more actively.”

My friend is a Turkish girl, she had a story for me and its one I have heard three times in the last 6 months...

She went out with a Pakistani man for three years. He rang her one-day and said they needed to break up because his fiancé had arrived in the country. He has since decided to get married and his parents have no idea that this girlfriend of his even existed. Her life was completely ruined.

For 3 years she suffered an abusive relationship, but every time she would try to leave, he persuaded her and sweet-talked her back.

That’s nearly as bad as this friend of mine Chan, she is Sikh and was dating a Pakistani for two years. The boys brother came round and said "Amir got married yesterday, I am so sorry". The worst bit was that he followed by mentioning to my friend that he was single and available. Unbelievable!!

Now she was Sikh so she should have known better but the Turkish girl was Muslim. I know a Bengali girl who was dumped when the guy’s parents suggested he get married, and again he didn’t have the guts to mention to mummy and daddy that he had a Bengali girlfriend.

I swear I only hear these complaints about Pakistani boys.

Pakistani boys in my area tend to have a reputation where they ‘use and abuse’ anyone who is not Pakistani then marry their cousins from Pakistan. I find this deeply upsetting as its shameful especially when you have wasted 3 years of a girl’s life.

Members of an online Islamic forum www.islamicboard.com that has over 3000 regular members and hundreds of hits per hour are planning on entering Sikh Gurdwara Sahibs in the hope to convert Sikhs to Islam.

In recent months there has been an increase in underhanded tactics employed by extremists targeting Sikhs at universities. However, the Gurdwara Sahibs have so far been free of any such extremists. One of the Gurdwara Sahib’s mentioned on the forum is Leicester.

Sarabha Panjab spoke to some youth at Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara in Leicester;

“The Gurdwara Sahib is open to all, regardless of colour and faith. But if anyone wishes to enter these premises with wrong or evil intentions – we will not hesitate in kicking their ***, pardon my Panjabi!!” says Rajinder Singh.

Bibi Jasvir Kaur who regularly helps with Guru Ka Languar Sewa said,

“Its frightening to think that they would do this in a Gurdwara, we will all have to extra vigilant”

i am shortly to be moving to Leicester which has a large sikh population so have begun to examine their faith so i can give them dawah insha'allah.i believe i have found several obvious flaws that i could use to show their religion as being false and as long as my own faith is strong enough so i am not in danger do you think it would be allowable to visit the sikh temple to call them towards islam?i understand the sikhs keep a communial kitchen that only serves vegetarian food, these communial meals are supposed to be open to all of every faith. is it allowable for me to attend this and eat with them for the purposes of calling them towards islam?

Sikh Parents are being warned of hidden dangers in Internet chat rooms and friends-networks after a teenage girl was duped into meeting a 29-year-old Muslim man.

The man had introduced himself as a 17-year-old ‘Panjabi boy’ named ‘Jags’ when they first began swapping messages on Internet site www.Hi5.com.

A counsellor working for Sikh Awareness Society (SAS) Manjit Kaur spoke to the 15-year-old girl about her frightening experience that began when she met someone on the Internet.

“I thought the boy I was meeting every night on the Internet was 17-years-old.”

"After a few weeks we started talking on the phone, nearly every night for hours," said the girl.

Eventually she agreed to meet him,

“He said he would send a taxi to pick me up and that I could stay with him in his hotel room.”

It turned out the taxi driver was ‘Jags’; real name Shazad Siraj from Bedford, Beds.

The Home Office is warning that up to one in five children could be in danger from these Internet abusers.
Paedophiles are regularly using Internet chat rooms to lure vulnerable children as young as 13, according to the disturbing report.

Manjit Kaur from SAS says;

“We have seen a steady increase in the number of abuse cases originating from the Internet. Older manipulative men are targeting naïve Sikh girls.”

“In most cases these men are Muslim, which goes to show that these are racially motivated cases of sexual exploitation. We urge all Sikh parents to lock down certain sites and keep the computer in a centrally located area; such as the living room.”

Manjit Kaur is working with the SAS Victim Rehabilitation Program and has given counselling to over 40 victims of racially motivated sexual exploitation.

“It is disappointing to see that the Sikh community at large is still unaware about these problems. This is largely due to the fact that these issues are still very much taboo in Panjabi culture. Therefore Sikh leaders are reluctant to openly talk about them” say Manjit Kaur.

Radical Muslims are being accused of blackmailing young Hindu and Sikh women into changing religion in “groomed conversions” on campuses.

Some of the young women have suffered physical violence. Others have said that the men claimed to have been paid to convert their victims.

Ramesh Kallidai, secretary-general of the Hindu Forum of Britain, said: “The main problem is these girls feel very vulnerable and intimidated by these men. They talk about it to their friends, who tell us what is happening, but don’t want to speak to the police. Some families are completely broken apart by it. It becomes difficult to admit in public.

“One girl was beaten up when she refused to convert. She is petrified. She only spoke to one other girl about it, who contacted us.”

One Sikh organisation sets up telephone helplines and arranges visits to temples to raise awareness of the problem. A peaceful protest by Sikh youth stopped an extremist Islamic seminar taking place at London School of Pharmacy today.

Up to 80 Sikh youth protested against the hate filled lecture in which the concepts and philosophy of Sikhism are ridiculed, undermined, misinterpreted and misquoted in the hope to ‘brain wash’ innocent Sikh students into an extreme form of Islam. The organisers cancelled the seminar at London School of Pharmacy but are known to be holding them secretly at other universities.

A member of London student Sikh Society said,

Glasgow, Scotland - On Saturday 17 February 2007, a 22-year-old Sikh student waiting at a bustop on his way back from work was set upon and attacked by a gang of white racist men. The young Sikh man reported the racially motivated incident to the police and to the Sikh Helpline, an organisation that provides a confidential telephone service counselling, and an online forum and services on www.SikhHelpline.com, providing support and guidance to those facing issues relating to culture, religion, bullying and abuse.

Lakhivar Singh, an oversees post-graduate student from India studying at Paisley University said, "I was standing at Braehead bus stop to catch the bus home when a few Scottish guys standing at the bus stop started to abuse me by saying "Your a Paki" and "You have a bomb in your turban." One of the racist gang members then said, "Take the bomb out of your turban". Being shocked at the verbal abuse he replied back to leave him alone. To this the group of gang of men walked away towards the Renfrew's Braehead Shopping Centre. At this point the young Sikh man rang the police and reported the racial incident, to which the police responded that they would send police officers to where he was as soon as possible.

However, the torment of the Lakhivar Singh did not stop here. Minutes later, the group of racist white men came back from the Shopping Centre. The police had not arrived yet. The racist men punched and kicked the young Sikh man, as he lay knocked to the floor. One of the attackers pulled his turban and eye-spectacles off. The young man's Kesh (unshorn hair) tied up on the head had come undone as the attackers continuously punched him.

Thankfully the Shopping Centre security guards heard Lakhivar Singh's calls for help and as soon as they came over the racist gang ran away. The security guards were unable to catch the gang. In the meantime the police arrived and a passer-by who had witnessed the gruesome attack provided information to the police. A police spokeswoman said, "Our inquires into the incident are ongoing."

Lakhivar Singh told the media, "All my family are in Mumbai and they just want me to come home because they think Scotland is no longer safe for me." He added, "I was really enjoying myself here and most people are friendly, but now I am scared to go to work and I just want to go home."

Attacks on members of the Sikh community have been on the rise due largely to the ignorance of some members of the public - who mistake turbaned Sikhs as Muslim radicals as well as the UK's politically-correct policy of lumping Sikhs with the collective tag 'Asian' instead of clearly identifying Muslims as the offenders when needed. Members of the Sikh community are advised to take all necessary precautions when they are out and to report all racial incidents immediately to the local police regardless of how minor or significant one may perceive the incident to be.

However, he was left red-faced as a storm erupted simultaneously over conversion tactics and alleged Racial and Religious hatred being spread at the Islamic Society at Coventry University.

Police assured the community that it will take action against aggressive conversion techniques and intimidation being employed against girls by radical Muslim groups in university campuses. It was stated that those most at risk are Hindu or Sikh girls, who are especially vulnerable.

This was announced on Wednesday at a conference organised by the Hindu Forum of Britain and the National Hindu Students Forum.

At the same time, in Coventry University furore erupted within the Sikh and wider Indian community over how the Student Guild, an academic body, allowed an event which is in direct breach of UK legislation by inciting religious hatred in the Sikh and Hindu communities as well as racial hatred in the wider Indian community.

It is alleged that in the meeting, a youngster called 'Aman Dhaliwal' (a former Sikh) announced he was no longer a Sikh and had now embraced Islam and strongly encouraged others to do likewise. Sources say leaflets and literature were distributed with the same intent. The same group of extremists have appeared at Islamic Societies across the UK. Cops are working with universities to clamp down on the practice of 'Aggressive Conversion' that has seen girls beaten up and forced to abandon university courses, announced Sir Ian Blair, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.

Those most at risk are Hindu or Sikh girls, who are especially vulnerable, according to the Hindu Forum of Britain.

They claim that hundreds are subject to intimidation, threats and beatings by Muslim men who take them out for dates before beginning a campaign of 'terrorism' until they convert to Islam.

And they say some Muslims are being paid up to £5,000 for every person converted to Islam in parts of the country.

Sir Ian Blair stated his support for the Hindu community at a conference organised by the Hindu Forum of Britain.

Ramesh Kallidai, secretary general of the Hindu Forum of Britain, said the Hindu and Sikh community were infuriated by the conversions.

He said: "There is a lot of passion and resentment in the Hindu and Sikh community over aggressive conversions and intimidation on university campuses.

"Extremist Muslims make life completely miserable for Hindu girls. Some are completely petrified because they are constantly being phoned up, having their door knocked. They feel these men have a complete hold on them.

"One girl was beaten up on the street and and others have been forced to leave university.

"We believe there are at least two or three cases in each of the universities in London alone, based on what we know from victims telling us.

"It is probably more prevalent in cities such as Birmingham, Leeds and Bradford and I would absolutely say are hundreds of such cases.

"We have seen posters in Luton that specifically ask Muslim boys to convert Hindu and Sikh girls because they are very vulnerable.

"They are encouraged to go on dates with Hindu girls, and once they have won their trust, to aggressively convert them.

"I have even heard rumours that Muslim boys are paid as much as £5,000 to convert someone.

"The problem is we don't know the full extent of the problem because even coming to tell us takes very brave girls. They know the boys that do it and are frightened they know where they live."

Last November, Higher Education minister Bill Rammell claimed University campuses had become focal points for Islamic extremism.

Police urged any girls who have been targeted to report aggressors to them.

However Mr Kallidai said they were not doing enough to tackle the problem and that they needed to identify the extent of the problem before attempting to deal with it.

He continued: "The problem is that police are saying they will deal with this and work with universities, but they don't know the scale of the problem.

"They've got to encourage people to report and intimidation, then investigate the problem. They need to find ways in which girls will feel more confident to report it.

"I think a dedicated, confidential line would be of help - something like Crimestoppers is too general."

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "The Commissioner and other Metropolitan Police colleagues attended a Hindu security conference organised by the Hindu Forum of Great Britain yesterday.

"The Commissioner told attendees that the Met understood the feeling in the Hindu community that police had not given them as much attention as some other groups and gave reassurance that their concerns are taken seriously.

"The issue of Hindu girls being reportedly subjected to aggressive conversion techniques and intimidation on university campuses was raised.

"Neighbourhood police officers work with university authorities in London and we would encourage anyone who has been targeted in this way to seek help and support and where necessary use third party reporting facilities if they do not want to contact police directly."

British Education Secretary Ruth Kelly said that British universities have been told to spy on student activists to prevent the spread of Islamic extremism and terror.

The Education Secretary said that Vice-Chancellors had a duty to inform the police where they believed that students or staff were breaking the law or committing ''possible criminal acts''.

Freedom of speech and thought on campus did not extend to tolerance of unacceptable behaviour, she told the Annual Conference of Universities UK, the body representing vice-chancellors and principals, in London.

A report by the Social Affairs Unit, a right-wing think tank, has warned that some British universities ''may have become, and may still be, safe havens for terrorist ideas and recruits.'' The report by Professor Anthony Glees and Chris Pope, both at Brunel University, named 24 universities ''where extremist and/or terror groups have been detected''.

Islamic societies and Muslim student organisations in universities and colleges have in the past targeted Sikh students in pursuit of converting Sikh girls to Islam. A decade ago the British Organisation of Sikh Students worked with the NUS to ban Islamic fundamentalists from UK university campuses. However, the new news of Muslim extremists infiltrating student organisations and societies in university and college is worrying for the Sikh community.

Sikh Societies have been talking about what they have observed of tactics of Islamic Societies at “fresher fair” approaching people and bombarding with questions and how only Islam is true and everyone else is damned to hell.
With the beginning of the new academic year the ‘fundamentalist Muslims’ issue has come to light once again in universities, with fundamentalist preying upon ignorant Sikhs who know little or nothing about the Sikh faith. Drunken racist pair face jail for attack

A POSSIBLE jail sentence hangs over two racist thugs who launched a sickening attack on a Sikh supermarket manager in Harpenden.

Steven Kent, aged 25, and Stuart Cameron, 19, turned up drunk last May at Sainsbury's in the town two hours before it was due to open.

As they tried to force their way in they racially abused the manager Gurminder Singh, known as Bobby, taunting him about being a Muslim. When he told them he was a Sikh they rained a flurry of blows on him leaving him with a fractured cheekbone.

Last week Kent, of Lowestoft, was found guilty of racially aggravated grievous bodily harm as well as a charge of affray for attacking another Sainsbury employee who rushed to help Mr Singh.

Cameron, of Glemsford Drive, Harpenden, had already pleaded guilty to the racist attack before the trial started and an Old Bailey jury cleared him of affray.

A third man Mark Hattam, of Ranleigh Walk, Harpenden, was cleared of racially aggravated grievous bodily harm but found guilty of affray for his part in the violence. All the verdicts were unanimous.

Judge Richard Hone remanded the trio on conditional bail and will sentence them on March 9.

The court heard that the three men were still drunk from a boozing session the night before when they turned up at Sainsbury's two hours before it was due to open on Sunday, May 28 - the Bank Holiday weekend.

They appeared at the front door of the store and tried to force their way in by pressing upon the glass doors. Mr Singh noticed them and opened the door to speak to them and was asked what time they were opening.

Cameron looked at his watch and told Mr Singh he was not displaying a sign at which point both Kent and Hattam started shouting at him as well.

The verbal attack then turned racist with Mr Singh accused of being a Paki and a Muslim even thought he told them he was of Sikh origin.

A fight broke out and witnesses saw Mr Singh being punched repeatedly in the face then kicked as he lay on the ground trying to protect himself. His colleague David Wilson tried to pull the attackers away but was punched several times in the face by Kent and Hattam suffering minor injuries as a result.

The three attackers began walking away but rushed back to attack Mr Singh again when he got to his feet and started shouting at them. Staff managed to restrain Hattam but Kent and Cameron fled. They were picked up later in a nearby street.

When interviewed Cameron described the attack as "a tussle" but later pleaded guilty to racially-aggravated grievous bodily harm. Kent claimed Mr Singh had provoked them before the violence began - but giving evidence Mr Singh laughed off the accusation and called it a fabrication.

Leeds, - Gurdwara 'SikhTemple Chapeltown', Leeds will no longer allow parties, alcohol, and meat on any of its premises, and as a result the anti-gurmat activity that had been ongoing for more than 25 years has now come to an end.

The Sikh community is indebted to the local sangat and the management committee for their momentous and principled decision and is grateful for the guidance and direction from Akal Takht Sahib for helping resolve this longstanding issue.

A Sandesh from the Akal Takht that party halls should not have any association to Gurdwaras was issued in April 2006 and Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti personally condemned the actions of the Leeds Gurdwara set-up. Upon being requested by the Sikh Sangat both locally and nationally the committee previously said that they would make efforts to change the set-up. However nothing to date had been done.
Leeds Chapeltown Gurdwara complex had for some years been the scene of disgraceful, anti-Gurmat scenes. The complex consists of the Gurdwara with a party hall about 15 metres adjacent to it. The fact such activities were allowed to carry on in a building, which is part of the Gurdwara estate was bad enough, however visitors to the hall would regularly smoke and drink in the shared car park, and sometimes the loud beats from music played in the building next door would be heard over the sublime kirtan inside GuruJi's Durbar.

An alleged al-Qa'eda terrorist cell discussed blowing up the Ministry of Sound nightclub to take revenge on "those slags dancing around", a jury heard yesterday.

Pictures of six of the seven alleged British terrorists were released for the first time as the court heard a covert recording made by MI5 in the student flat occupied by Jawad Akbar in Uxbridge, west London.

Akbar, then 20 and studying at Brunel University, suggested targeting bars and added: "The biggest nightclub in central London where no one can even turn around and say 'oh they were innocent', those slags dancing around and other things."

Apparently referring to the September 11 2001 attacks on America, he added: "Trust me, then you will get the public talking 'cause they targeted economics, yeah, but if you went for the social structure where every Tom, Dick and Harry goes on a Saturday night, yeah, that would be crazy, crazy thing."

Omar Khyam, one of the leaders of the gang, asked him: "If you got a job in a bar, yeah, say the Ministry of Sound, what are you planning to do there then?"

Akbar told him: "Blow the whole thing up."

Referring to the Bali nightclub bomb, he added: "I mean if you got that done in this country, yeah bruv, that would shock them. I'm talking about England is supposed to be the centre of everything, isn't it, in the world right now.

''Whenever you talk about it the British are so proud of it, when you think of it every single person goes, London supposed to be the highlight, yeah. Look at their security, it's crap, it's a joke." He apparently added: "You think, why aren't we attacking it?"

Khyam told him: "You have a proper plan, simultaneous, it's got to be big and effective."

Akbar said: "Our purpose is to defend the honour of the Muslim, yeah, and bring the Islamic state back because if the Islamic state were here then the problems would not be there."

The two men, both from Crawley, West Sussex, were discussing leaving their wives and families behind and whether Akbar was ready to join Khyam fighting Jihad in Pakistan.

Khyam said he believed Britain was a kufr [heathen] country and added: "You see things different, but me, it's just nothing, they just need to be killed and blood spilled. To me this is clear.

''The verse says lay in ambush for them, besiege them and kill them when you find them, to me that's just clear, kill them."

Quoting the Koran, Akbar said: "The best thing you can do is put terror in their hearts, there is no doubt, there is nothing better than that. We put fear in their hearts."

Khyam warned him to talk to those "running the Jihad [Holy War]" at the top in Pakistan and added: "So now in England, imagine you do something and there's brothers here you could jeopardise them, so it's better to consult those who are running the Jihad. There's a structure so work within the structure."

He added: "It's waiting bro. . . everyone's ready now, innit."

The pair also talked of other targets, including water, electricity and telecommunications but Khyam said it would have to be a "such a big explosion that hundreds of people died".

The Ministry of Sound was founded by James Palumbo, the son of Lord Palumbo in south London in 1991.

It was described as Britain's "most profitable club" with three bars and a VIP area, a capacity of 2,200, and a mixture of white, black, and Asian clubbers, including many tourists.

Gary Smart, the general manager, said: "If the nightclub was to be the subject of a terrorist attack it is clear the consequences could be devastating.

"With such a large number of people in a confined space it could lead to large loss of life, injury and structural damage."

It is claimed the gang were planning to use half a ton of ammonium nitrate stored in a lock-up in north west London for a homemade bomb.

Lahore Pakistan - Gullible young girls from as far as the Middle East, India and UK are being forced into prostitution after being lured by organised syndicates promising them glamorous careers and lucrative jobs, a humans rights group has said.

“Some are the girlfriends of these men, such as the cases we have had from the UK. These girls think they are going on holiday or honeymoon to visit his friends and family”

"The situation is extremely serious with smart operators hunting for good looking young girls for modelling assignments or jobs in call centres with good salaries," said Hasina Kharbih, chairperson of Impulse NGO Network, a rights group working in rescuing women trafficked.

"But in reality, many of these women were pushed into the notorious world of prostitution."

Impulse activists recently rescued at least four young girls from Lahores ‘Heera Mandi’ district. "The girls were Hindus from Northeast India and were lured by agents who promised them good modelling roles and handsomely paid jobs in call centres," Kharbih says.

"We were told by these rescued girls that there were more women from the northeast in the flesh trade racket who were trapped with such baits."

A new craze for careers in modelling among teenagers in India', spurred by television and newspaper advertisements, is being cited as reasons for traffickers wooing unsuspecting Indian girls into their net.

My story started when I was 16 years old living in Handsworth, we had just finished our last GCSE exams. About an hour later, we were approached by this really nice looking guy, came over to my mate and started chatting, we then noticed the "Kara" on his arm so we assumed it was ok to chat to him, his name was "Mick". We were then introduced to his mates, all of them were really smart and good looking. And we were enjoying this mingling with boys for the first time, we felt both scared and excited, because we had never done this before.

They brought us drinks, and encouraged us to have some alcohol, something we all strongly at that time refused, but once we paired up and went our separate ways everything changed (I never saw my friends again until a couple hours later, dancing with some strangers, and they were not themselves. I could not believe it, they were drunk! We justified dancing the way we were as we always danced at wedding parties.) I went over to them to see what had happened, they totally ignored me and encouraged me to drink which I then did. My dad would drink a lot so I assumed it be ok).

We left the club at the end, it was about 4 o' clock, I remember thinking how the hell are we going to get home? We were giggling, And we were late and drunk. I knew my gran would, phone my mum at work if I did not get home in the next 20mins, (I was normally home about 3:50pm, and it was already ten past four, I was in the middle of Birmingham City centre, 40mins away from home by bus!! I was so scared, I knew I was going to get into serious trouble once I got home, and I smelt strongly of smoke and alcohol. My dad was going to kill me. We did not know what to do? Then the guys, who we were dancing in the club, came over and asked us if we were alright? or if we needed anything?, i.e. a lift home, because we were so desperate, we said yes.

They dropped us home, we exchanged numbers and they went. I got slapped that day, my dad went absolutely mad, because I had lied, went to a club, danced with boys and got drunk! The whole family was really upset. I remember thinking I will never do anything like this again. My friends got the same treatment.

It was not until a couple of weeks later, that some one kept ringing my house number, anonymous caller, and my gran, bless her, would go over to answer the phone, but no reply. Then one day, as my gran was cooking my roti, the phone rang and I answered, it was that guy from the club. I didn't know what to do. I was scared and yet anxious to what might happen. He wanted us to meet up again, he wanted to know how we were? This was going to be my first relationship. I got to know "Abs" over the next couple of months, we would arrange, the best times for him to call me, it was exciting, no one knew about him, I felt needed and loved. He was 18 at the time, and I had just turned 16. He drove a really nice car and worked for his uncle, in I.T.

It got to a stage were we would meet up in the middle of the night, I would sneak out of my house, he would pick me up at the bottom of my street, and we would go everywhere together. I was loving every minute of it and every time we would not see each other, I felt like dying, I was truly in love with him. I did notice that he was not Punjabi, he dressed different to normal Punjabi boys that age, and he didn't drink and smoke. He knew a lot of Muslims, but I decide to ignore that fact, as I was having the time of my life.

I had a funny feeling he was Muslim, but he wore a Kara? and I never had the courage to ask him, because I didn’t want to ruin anything between us. But finally that day came when he revealed that he must go to the mosque, I was taken back, I didn’t know how to respond, my boyfriend was a Muslim, and I loved him too much to let him go. I asked him about his name, his nickname was Abs. he had told me his name was Harbinder, but in fact his name was Yasseen.

This was a distressing situation, he had lied to me and led me on to believe he was Sikh, but was in fact a Muslim. I confronted him, I asked him, you knew I was a Sikh, then why did you get into this relationship with me? He answered my question with a question, does it matter? And I remember replying "No" after a few minutes, I thought to myself he's not your typical Muslim, and he has treated me with respect.

It was a hard time, I felt like breaking up with him, he was a Muslim, it wouldn't work? But I could not help it, he loved me, I loved him, and I kept reminding myself, he was different, and all those good times we had during the start of our relationship.

So we decided to give it a shot, (what fool I was), we would spend a lot of time together, he got me job at his uncle’s firm, they all treated me with respect although I was a Sikh, and all of them were Muslim, they were so nice to me. I felt wanted and at home with me boyfriends family.

We saw each other for over 2 year's (all through collage) and then came the time for me to leave my home and go to university, I went out of town a good few hours away, I wanted to live as far as away from my family as possible, as they were the obstacle, in my life from him. I had stopped wearing my Kara and my gold khanda necklace. I also stopped going to the Gurdwara, because I did not want to offend him, and I would use that time instead to be with him. I loved him and would do anything for him, anything.

At university. Things got a bit serious, I lived in halls first, but everyone would look at me and call me names to my face and behind my back, they even trashed my flat twice!! All because I was going out with a Muslim, I would try to explain to them, he was different and he loved me, they would not have none of it, I felt so bad, he had to go through a lot because of me. This was a really bad experience for me, and I felt vulnerable and weak. Things started to change a lot during the first few weeks at my university.

I quit uni, and moved into a flat with him, he got me another job, and again his cousin helped us financially. I never told my parents that I had done this, they would phone me, I would say everything was going excellent, and I would lie to them.

During this time, I started to stop going home, I would say that I had too much uni work to do, and so I couldn’t come home. Then, I stopped answering my phone from my family and friends, because I knew all they would say is to stop seeing him, and come home etc. so I changed my number, that's not the only thing I changed, a few months later I changed my name!

We were happy together, we were in love, we were made for each other!! A few months later I even changed my faith, I became a Muslim, I was happy then to finally be apart of something that was so great, everyone loved me, and I was finally at home and peace. Islam then offered everything to me, it made sense and was the truth, Sikhism had to many flaws in it, or that is what I was told, and I believed everything he said, it all made sense, Sikhism was a man-made religion, it believed in caste (we had Gurdwara made on caste) we would make our women dance half naked on bhangra video's, while Islam would teach us to cover the women because she is so precious, like an diamond. I was duped, I knew nothing about Sikhism, my parents never told me, and I never learnt anything at the Gurdwara, never understood what the Granthi's were saying. And as a result I believed everything he told me.

We then decided to get married, but he said we should go to Pakistan to that, because his sisters were there, and they were all dying to meet me! So I agreed, we went. The year was 1994, I was 19 years old.

What I am about to tell you now, is the most disturbing part of my life, I have had to receive medical treatment from Doctor's on a regular basis for a long period, due to this. I would like to say something before I continue, what I am about to tell you, is no exaggeration in any way, this is exactly how it happened, and the metropolitan police are well aware of it.

Whilst I was on the flight over to Pakistan, I was so excited, I was finally going to get married to the love of my Life, I never thought about my family or friends, as I had everything I ever needed through him. And because I was taught to believe that they were the devil, they will take me to hell, and I did not want to go there.

When we reached Pakistan, there were a few people there to greet us, I had worn the hi-jab, as a sign of respect to my new in-laws and faith. They were so happy to see me. We were then herded into a 4x4, and then of we went to meet the rest of Yasseen's family.

We were driving for a few hours, and I was absolutely worn out. We then stopped at what seemed to be a police station or the local sheriff's office, the luggage was taken out of the jeep, and these men came and took the luggage away, Yasseen came over and took my personal belongings, everything, my passport, money even my toothbrush, he said the police wanted to check our things, in case we were smuggling drugs, I remember laughing at first, but when I looked at his face, he was deadly serious, I gave him everything and then I was taken to a room, where I was told to wait. They asked Yasseen questions.

It seemed like ages, while I waited in that room, on my own. I was getting very worried for Yasseen. During this time, two more cars and a jeep had come to this police station. Finally, a middle aged man came over and started to ask me personal questions. I had trouble understanding what he was saying, he spoke so fast, in Urdu. I kept asking him to take me to Yasseen. He said "Yasseen has gone", those three words stopped my heart beating, I was alone in a remote village in Pakistan, with no belongings and locked up a room. I did not know what to think? What was happening? This was not supposed to happen? Where had Yasseen gone? I cried, and pleaded with the men there to take me to Lahore, they would simply laugh at me and beat me.

For a few days, I did not eat or sleep, I was disorientated, and I did not know what to do? I became ill, I was very weak, a doctor was called, he gave me some medicine, with which all I did was sleep. The next thing I remember was, when I woke up in a room, with a small barred window, and a small door. This door was locked from the outside, I started to scream, a women cam rushing over. I was relieved for a moment that women had come over to my aid, until she started to shout at me and curse me. I didn't know what was going on. I just sat there in that small, cold room, with blank mind.

By now I had realized, I was not going home and Yasseen was not coming to my rescue. The building I stayed at was 3 storeys, and was very big. It must have had more than 30 rooms. It was the only building there, there was nothing anywhere around this building, just fields and 1 tarmac road. It was a brothel.

I was not alone there were 3 other girls (Sikh) that were in the same situation as me. We were all kept on the top floor, we were all given one room each. The other girls had been there longer than me, we would get a chance to speak during the night. They told me of their stories and how they got here, they sounded familiar. It would be very cold during the night. They told me, on the 3rd day, what happens here. This where, the locals came to enjoy themselves. I was very frightened.

This is where they would come to quench their desires. I remember how they treated us, they would treat us like animals, they would rape us, and then spit on our faces after they were done. It was a living nightmare, with no escape.

I spent 15 months here, over that period of time, I have seen 36 more girls been brought here, I have some commit suicide and some taken away by rich businessmen who would use them in their own brothels. I saw and lived in HELL, I saw young girls being raped, I herd the screams of these girls and their frustration, that no one would help them. I saw this with my own eyes, and no-one ever helped us.

A time came when me and another girl, got the opportunity to escape, we had been taken to a local tribesman’s house, a fight had broken out, in his house, the confusion gave us an opportunity to escape, we took a jeep, and set out on the roads, we didn’t know where we were going, we just went, where ever the road took us. We got close to a town Called Eminabad, here we informed the police of what had happened to us, they helped us, we were handed over to the British embassy and sent back to the UK.

Once back in the UK, the police tried to hand us back to our families, OUR OWN families had disowned us, my family told me to go away, that I had brought shame to the family name, I tried to apologise, and they would not accept it. I even tried to get help form the Gurdwara, they said they could not help us. We had to go back to the police, who then put us in a witness protection programme. The year is 1996, I was then 21.

We both were given a new chance to start a fresh, the police helped us a great deal. In the programme we were given a place to stay and they gave us new jobs, to rebuild our lives.

I am now 29, married and have a 3 year old girl. I re-initiated into Sikhism in 1998, me and my friend, we took Amrit and took an active role to combat what had happened to us and help others in the same situation.

There is not a single second that goes by, without me thinking about those poor girls locked up in Pakistan. I have been scared for life. But I must do everything I can to try to create awareness to help those girls that scream every night and go through that abuse. I am thankful to the Police who are trying to help those girls, but I think we as a community need to do much more.

We must come out of hiding, and face the danger these girls now face. But what we find is a really negative attitude employed by all parties, the families, Gurdwara and the girls, to do anything about this. I know what happened to me and what is still happening to those that are in Pakistan.

Accordingly to the latest figures, there are 300 girls there right now, facing constant abuse, who are getting drugged up everyday and then raped. One of them is your relative!! Just keep that I mind, your cousin who you have not seen for over 3 years, went to university and never came back!

When you ask your uncle and auntie, where is your cousin who you nor your family have seen for so long, you get the reply, that she has brought a house there and she has found herself a good job, and so she is constantly busy. I beg you please stop these lies, please help my sisters' in Pakistan, who no-one helps, their families are too scared, or they don't know where she is?

We must put a stop to this, I saw what is happening there, believe me, I do not even wish this to happen my enemies, when you see a young girl being raped by savages, who beat her and then spit on her.

POLICE and community leaders say they are struggling to contain racial tensions in Derby after a young Sikh was badly hurt when ambushed by a gang of Muslims carrying hammers and crowbars.

Harjit Singh Sandhu, 22, was in hospital with a broken leg, ankle and nose and cuts to his face and head after being attacked for 20 minutes in the Normanton area on Monday.

About 50 Sikh youths went on to the streets to protest at the rising number of assaults by Muslim youths, but were dispersed by police. A fortnight ago Rhadika Shukla, 15, suffered a fractured skull when a Muslim gang rampaged through her school, attacking pupils and staff with hammers and axes and smashing windows.

A group called the Youth Muslims Organisation has been seen stirring trouble and gangs have been spotted roaming the streets chanting Osama bin Laden's name since September 11. The authorities fear an explosion of violence as Sikhs and Hindus retaliate.

Harninder Singh, a close friend of Mr Sandhu, said: "It was a totally unprovoked attack and the worst thing was he ran into a few Muslim shops for help and received none. When they had finished he was absolutely covered in blood. I was with him last Wednesday when Muslim lads mounted the pavement and tried to run him over."

As appeals went out for calm, Gurmel Bolla, the vice-president of the Sikh temple in Derby, said community leaders were trying to keep a lid on the simmering violence, but were struggling. An emergency steering group has been convened for the communities, the police and the local council.

Police said: "Community leaders are doing everything they can." Two men had been arrested and were being questioned about the assault on Mr Sandhu, they added.
